Vows

Today she whispered
through heavy breath
and sun stained sheets

Her fingertips tracing
dances and snowflakes
down his shoulder blades

The vows he had sworn
abandoned in the morning fog

A hesitation, a stifled sigh
He could not save until tomorrow
